Rosedale Federal Pledges $25,000 to Complete Library Reading Garden
Tuesday, December 8: The Board of Directors for Rosedale Federal Savings and Loan has pledged up to $25,000 to build a reading garden at the new Perry Hall library. The reading garden will be dedicated as a memorial to longtime Rosedale Federal President George W. Barrett, Jr., who passed away earlier this year.
The garden will be located near far northwestern side of the building, overlooking the pond. It will include a walkway, statues, and benches. Construction is expected to start in the spring of 2010. Perry Hall resident Dorothy Wells helped design the project.
"We are very pleased to make this donation in honor of our longtime President George Barrett, who deeply loved the community and would be very proud of this reading garden," commented Thomas S. Wintz, President and CEO of Rosedale Federal Savings and Loan. The reading garden is the final part of a capital campaign led by the Perry Hall Improvement Association (PHIA) and the Foundation for Baltimore County Public Library. Unfortunately, until Rosedale Federal provided the pledge, there was insufficient money to build the garden as planned.
"Rosedale Federal really came through for us, and we appreciate their generous donation," commented Jeffrey W. Smith, Treasurer of the Foundation for Baltimore County Public Library.
With the construction of the reading garden, numerous enhancements have been funded to the new library, including a gallery of historical photographs and special items for the children’s area. "The reading garden is the perfect finishing touch to our wonderful library," concluded PHIA President David Marks. "The Perry Hall library has become a focal point for our community, and it is made even better thanks to corporate friends like Rosedale Federal Savings and Loan."
